As the days dwindle down

Thanksgiving is the best holiday. It’s family oriented, it’s not promoted as an extended party-weekend and there’s not a great deal of pressure to spend money. It’s like we take a deep, thoughtful breath before diving into the murky pool of schmaltz and hyper-consumerism that will consume the rest of the year.

The best part of Thanksgiving is also the most painful. The gathering of family reminds us of those our hearts still miss. And the colorful leaves and cooler days remind us that time passes and things are left behind even as we move on.
